Halogen lights are the most traditional form of automotive lighting and are still widely used in budget-friendly vehicles around the world. They work on a simple principle where a tungsten filament is heated inside a quartz glass bulb filled with halogen gas, producing visible light. The addition of halogen gas prevents the filament from blackening the bulbâs interior, thereby extending its lifespan compared to standard incandescent bulbs. Halogen bulbs typically produce a warm yellowish light with a color temperature of around 3000K to 3500K. While they are inexpensive and easy to replace, their drawbacks include high power consumption, lower brightness compared to modern LEDs or HIDs, and a much shorter lifespan of only 400â1000 hours. They also generate significant heat, which can reduce efficiency. Despite these limitations, halogen bulbs are valued for their affordability, wide availability, and decent performance in standard driving conditions. They are commonly used for headlights, fog lamps, and indicator lights in many cars, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles. However, as vehicle technology advances, halogen bulbs are gradually being replaced by LEDs and HIDs due to the latterâs superior brightness, efficiency, and longevity.
